Schoolgirl hit by car dies in hospital
A schoolgirl died today after being struck by a car, police said.
The 14-year-old was hit last night in New Addington, south London, and died shortly after midnight in hospital.
Scotland Yard said the driver of the car, a 35-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is in police custody.
The girl was hit at around 7.30pm last night.
She was taken to Kings College Hospital in south east London where she died at 00.20am today. A post-mortem examination should be held tomorrow.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision.
