The police have arrested a 13-year-old boy on suspicion of raping a teenage girl in a park in High Wycombe on Monday afternoon.

Thames Valley Police are appealing to potential witnesses to come forward in connection with the incident, which took place at around 3pm in Rye Park, off London Road, High Wycombe.

Detective Inspector Michael Anderson, from the Child Abuse Investigation Unit at Aylesbury police station, said: “This is naturally a distressing incident for the victim, and it will understandably cause concern in the local community."

He reassured the public that a thorough investigation was under way and that it was thought to be an isolated incident.

The 13-year old boy, from Buckinghamshire, was subsequently released on conditional bail following his arrest.
