Man arrested over 'rock-throwing' attacks on more than 50 cars

Police receive flurry of reports of stones thrown at vehicles leaving smashed windows, scratched paint and dented bumpers

A man has been arrested after rocks were thrown at more than 50 cars and an ambulance driving along the Norfolk-Suffolk border in the last three weeks.

The first incident was reported on 24 May when a car travelling on the A146 near North Cove was hit by a rock that smashed its wing mirror.

In the weeks that followed, police received a flurry of reports of rocks being thrown from oncoming vehicles – denting license plates, scratching paintwork and smashing windows.

As recently as 11 June a private patient transport ambulance driving to Bungay from Haleswoth was apparently targeted.

Suffolk Police said a large rock was thrown at the ambulance – which was empty at the time – from an oncoming vehicle.

Police released a public appeal for information and on Wednesday arrested a man in his 20s from Loddon in Norfolk “on suspicion of criminal damage”.

He is being held in police custody.
