Man arrested after 'multiple people' pushed into Regent's Canal in central London

A man has been arrested after “multiple” people were pushed into Regent’s Canal in London on Tuesday morning.

Police officers in Camden said they were called to reports a man had pushed people into the waterway along the towpath at St Pancras Way.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said no one was believed to have been seriously hurt.

Further details of the man arrested were not immediately available.

The spokesman added: “Police were made aware of a man attempting to push members of the public into Regent’s Canal, at approximately 8.40am.

“Officers attended along with London Ambulance Service (LAS) and London Fire Brigade.

“Two people were pushed into [the] canal. They were assessed by LAS at the scene. No injuries were reported.

“Shortly afterwards, the man was detained by security staff at King’s Cross station.

“A member of security staff was injured while detaining the man. He was treated by LAS at the scene for injuries that are not life-threatening or life-changing.

“The man was arrested for a number of offences.”

Camden’s central north neighbourhood team had tweeted on Tuesday: “We received several calls that a male had pushed multiple persons into the canal along Pancras Way ... We have him detained.

“Police are now appealing for any further victims or witnesses from this incident to come forward.”

It came as London basked in what was expected to be the final day of high temperatures following the record-breaking bank holiday.

Temperatures topped 28C on Monday.
