A man who raped a women as she was taken ill in a train toilet has been jailed for six years.

Timothy Davies, 45, had been travelling to his hometown of Ramsgate, east Kent, with his wife at about 1am on December 2018 when his victim, who was in the same carriage, became unwell.

CCTV footage presented to Canterbury Crown Court showed Davies touching the woman inappropriately before leading her to the train’s toilet, where she was sick.

Davies took this opportunity to lock the door and rape his victim, the court heard.

His wife knocked on the door three times during the attack, twice telling him that their stop was coming up, to which Davies responded that the woman he was assaulting was being sick.

The couple left the train together at Ramsgate. Davies’ victim, who remains anonymous, told her family what had happened after returning home.

In a statement read in court the woman said the attack had felt like a “nightmare” and that it would be a “scar” that would never leave her.

Questioned by the British Transport Police (BTP) the following day, Davies said the sexual activity was consensual, going as far as to claim his victim had enjoyed the attack.

He has since been jailed for six years, after a jury found him guilty of rape on 7 February.

Detective Constable Marc Farmer, of BTP, commended the victim for her courage in coming forward.

He said: “This was an absolutely appalling attack and for Davies to try and claim it was in any way consensual is beyond reprehensible.

“Thankfully the jury saw straight through his web of lies and came to a unanimous verdict that he was guilty of this shocking and calculated rape.

“I hope seeing him behind bars will be some small comfort for the victim, and that she can finally now start to piece her life back together again.

“She should be thoroughly commended for the immense personal strength that she has shown throughout this entire process, and for her courage in coming forward. It is her bravery that has brought Davies to justice.

“I hope this sends a very clear message to everyone that we will do everything in our power to prosecute sex offenders and rapists like Davies.”
