Man held on suspicion of attempted murder after two police officers stabbed with screwdriver
Officers attacked while responding to reports of burglary in Barnet, north London
A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after two police officers were attacked with a screwdriver in north London.
One of the officers was stabbed in the head and the other was wounded in the arm, the Metropolitan Police said.
The officers had been responding to a reported burglary at 4.45pm on Wednesday.
While on their way, they were approached a member of the public who said there was a man “acting suspiciously and carrying a screwdriver” in Lawrence Gardens, Barnet.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "Officers attempted to speak with this man.
"Two officers were assaulted by the suspect. One officer sustained head injuries and the other injuries to his arm caused by the screwdriver.
"The officers have been taken by the London Ambulance Service to a north London hospital for treatment. Their injuries are not life-threatening."
A 29-year-old man was held on suspicion of attempted murder. He was taken to a north London police station, where he remains in custody.
