Police officers who took cocaine together during extra-marital affair jailed
'Complete hypocrites' banned from working in policing after release from prison
Two police officers who took cocaine together in hotel rooms during an extramarital affair have been jailed.
Married PC Adam Jackson and PC Kerry Reeve, both 36, met while serving in Greater Manchester Police’s tactical aid unit and started their relationship in 2015.
Over the next two years, Jackson – known to his dealer as “my piggy pal” – brought cocaine to nights out, hotel rooms and secret locations where they believed no one would be watching.
One photo taken on his phone showed snap bags, a bank card and a bottle of Veuve Clicquot champagne on a bedroom table at the Blackpool Football Club Hotel, while another image from the same location displayed a line of cocaine across Reeve’s breast.
In early 2017, she began to ask and encourage Jackson to obtain the drug for her, the court heard.
In one message, Reeve texted Jackson: “Any news on Friday’s package yet? I well wanna get on it.”
He replied: “I’m ringing him later so I’ll chase him up ... I’m not doing overtime on Saturday. I’ll be too f***ed but I’ll do Sunday even tho I really don’t want to haha xxx.”
A covert investigation by Greater Manchester Police’s anti-corruption unit found Jackson was buying cocaine from friend Daniel Wade, who sourced the class A drug from dealers John Pounder and Callam Wood.
Reeve and Jackson were arrested at her home on 12 February 2017, when officers found cocaine on Reeve’s bedside table and three snap bags of the drug and ecstasy tablets in Jackson’s bag.
Both officers denied being concerned in the supply of cocaine and Reeve claimed she was unaware of the drugs being carried by Jackson, claiming traces were found in her hair because she had been on “numerous drug raids”.
Reeve also suggested Jackson had sent her photographs of flour made to look like cocaine as “banter”, the court heard.
Judge Michael Leeming said Reeve had done her utmost to abdicate responsibility before pleading guilty to encouraging Jackson to obtain and supply cocaine in May.
Both officers seemed to blame their employers in being “unsupported at work“ after Jackson’s lawyer claimed he used cocaine as a “crutch”, the judge noted.
“You have a difficult job, everyone accepts that, but it does not give you a licence to turn to class A drugs to relax,” he told the court.
“You gave no thought that your performance at work might be adversely affected or the effect this might have on the police or indeed public confidence in the police.”
In mitigation, defence barrister Ricky Holland said Reeve was a casual user whose “shame and embarrassment is indisputable”.
Michael Lavery, defending Jackson, said he was now drug free, had qualified as a HGV driver and was rebuilding his marriage.
The pair resigned from their jobs during misconduct proceedings and will be put on the College of Policing Barred and Advisory List to prevent them from working in law enforcement in future.
Chief superintendent Annette Anderson, head of Greater Manchester Police’s professional standards branch, said: “As serving police officers, Jackson and Reeve fell way below the standards expected and were complete hypocrites carrying out their duties all the while knowing they themselves were committing criminal offences.
“Their arrogance and dishonesty is utterly unacceptable and I’m thankful neither will be able to work in policing again.
“Jackson implicated his friend [Daniel] Wade by asking him to source drugs for him and as a result we were also able to take three drug dealers off the streets and put them in prison.”
All five defendants pleaded guilty to drugs offences at Manchester Crown Court and were jailed on Monday.
Adam Jackson was sentenced to one year and six months in prison, while Kerry Reeve was jailed for 31 weeks.
Wade, 36, was sentenced to two years, John Pounder, 31,to three years and two months and Callum Wood, 38, Oswaldtwistle to three years and five months.
