Police are searching for the driver of a car after a man was killed in a hit-and-run incident.

The 44-year-old was struck by the car on a railway bridge in Enfield, north London, just before 11.30pm last night.

Emergency services were called to Carterhatch Lane, but the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been told, but his name is yet to be released.

The driver of the silver car did not stop, and Scotland Yard said the vehicle "fled the scene at speed", heading towards the A10.

A police spokesman said: "At this early stage officers believe the car involved was a silver-coloured BMW and would have sustained frontal damage, lost its near-side wing mirror and possibly sustained some damage to its roof."
