Police called to Finsbury Park station in London over reports of 'man with a knife'

Police were called to a station in North London on Sunday afternoon after a passenger reported seeing a man with a knife.

British Transport Police said they were called to Finsbury Park station at approximately 2:20pm after a member of the public reported seeing a fellow passenger carrying a blade.

A spokesman said: “We were called to Finsbury Park railway and underground station at 2:20pm following a report of a man carrying a knife.

"Officers attended the station and carried out a search but the man was not located.

"Enquiries are ongoing at this time and anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or text us on 61016 quoting reference number 159 and the date of the incident 3 January 2016".

Victoria line services faced severe disruption during the incident as police searched the area.

Witnesses reported seeing a major police presence at the station - which serves both National Rail and Underground lines - during the incident.
