Nursery worker arrested over 'child sex attack'

Wednesday 21 October 2009 00:00 BST

A 32-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with an alleged sexual assault on a child at a nursery.

West Yorkshire Police said the woman, from Leeds, was arrested on Friday by officers investigating an incident at an unnamed centre in the south of the city. The woman has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

The investigation is understood to be at an early stage but officers are thought to be treating it as an isolated incident. Leeds City Council said parents and carers who use the nursery have been notified. A spokeswoman for the nursery said a member of staff had been suspended as a result of an allegation.

One parent with children at the nursery told the Yorkshire Evening Post: "It is the worst nightmare situation."
