Newry deaths: Girl, 15, found dead at flat alongside her mother was strangled, police say
Detectives believe Allison Marimon-Herrera's mother Giselle was also strangled and her mother's partner died by hanging
A 15-year-old girl found dead at a flat in Northern Ireland alongside her mother was strangled, police said.
Detectives confirmed Allison Marimon-Herrera was strangled to death and said there was a “strong possibility” that her mother Giselle, 37, died the same way.
Police said Ms Marimon-Herrera’s partner, a 38-year-old man, who also lived at the address, died by hanging. He has not been named.
A murder investigation was launched after all three were discovered dead at Glin Ree Court, in Newry, County Down, at about 11am on Thursday.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland said it was not looking for anybody else in connection with the incident.
Ms Marimon-Herrera is originally from Colombia and moved to Northern Ireland four years ago.
Her daughter Allison was born in Spain and has lived in Northern Ireland since 2017. She attended Newry High School.
Detective Superintendent Jason Murphy said police were working to find out what exactly happened at the flat in Newry and described it as an “unspeakable tragedy”.
“I believe that Giselle and Allison were still alive in the early hours of Sunday morning but family members have not been able to contact them since,” he said.
“The exact circumstances of what happened in their home remains the subject of our investigation.
“I would appeal today to anyone who came into direct contact with either Giselle or Allison, or communicated with them via text or social media since Friday, to contact detectives in Newry.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact police by calling 101.
