Newborn baby found dead in river
Police investigating the alleged concealment of a birth today found the body of a newborn baby in a river.
West Mercia Constabulary said the baby was found the River Teme in Ludlow, Shropshire, late this morning.
A man in his late teens, arrested yesterday on suspicion of concealing a birth, has been released on police bail.
The baby was discovered by underwater search teams in an area called The Linney.
A police spokesman said: "At this stage detectives are treating the incident as an alleged concealment of a birth and a man in his late teens has been arrested and bailed in connection with the matter.
"A woman is receiving medical treatment at this time.
"The coroner for South Shropshire, Mr Anthony Sibcy, has been made aware and a post-mortem examination will be held in due course."
Detectives are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
