Convicted killer linked to historical rape of teenage girl after she discovers he is father of her child
Victim reports attack to police after getting results of DNA test
A convicted murderer who raped a 14-year-old girl two decades ago was linked to the attack after she discovered he was the father of her child.
Mohammed Fethaullah, 58, is believed to have spiked the teenager’s drink when she finished her shift at his grocer’s shop in Brixton, south London, on 18 June 1999.
She later found out she was pregnant but decided to raise the child with her boyfriend despite knowing there was a chance it could be the rapist’s baby.
The couple split up a few year later and in November 2016 a DNA test ultimately proved the child was conceived as a result of the attack.
She contacted police to report the rape on 11 January 2017.
Detectives launched an investigation and discovered that Fethaullah was already in prison serving a life sentence for the murder of his stepmother in 2002.
He was convicted of rape on Thursday following a trial at Inner London Crown Court and will be sentenced in July.
“Fethaullah is a dangerous predatory individual who subjected a 14-year-old girl to a terrible ordeal,” said Detective Sergeant Kendal Moore, from the Metropolitan Police’s Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command.
“I would like recognition given to the victim, who in such awful circumstances, found the strength to disclose this traumatic event and come forward to the police some 18 years later.
“She has carried the weight of this crime on her shoulders all this time and her bravery is truly commendable. I have been proud to lead this investigation and get justice for the victim.”
The victim had told the court how she collapsed after finishing a drink she had left on the desk of Fethaullah’s desk. She remembered him putting her in his car and driving to an unknown location.
She said she woke up to find him having sex with her on the back seat. He then drove her home.
Fethaullah was convicted of murder after he paid three friends to help him murder his stepmother Yasmin Akhtar, 35, because she had submitted a £250,000 divorce claim.
She was kidnapped from her home in Redhill, Surrey, and taken to Fethaullah’s shop before being strangled. Her body was dumped in a park in Stockwell, south London, and set alight.
DS Moore said: “I would encourage anyone who has been the subject of a sexual assault to contact the police in the knowledge that they will be listened to and supported by a team of people who are there to help them.”
