Murdered schoolgirl's father fighting for life

The father of a schoolgirl murdered by serial killer Peter Tobin was fighting for his life today after suffering a suspected heart attack.

Michael Hamilton, whose daughter Vicky was 15 when she was snatched by Tobin in Bathgate, West Lothian, in 1991, is seriously ill after reportedly collapsing on Monday.

He was admitted to Stirling Royal Infirmary, where a spokesman described his condition today as "critical but stable".

His wife Christine told the Sun newspaper: "The doctors are still trying to find out exactly what is wrong with him.

"He isn't speaking and is in a very bad way."

Mr Hamilton, who lives in Falkirk, spent 17 years not knowing what had happened to his daughter, who disappeared while waiting for a bus near Tobin's then home in Bathgate.

Her body was found along with another of Tobin's victims, Dinah McNicol, in the garden of another of his former homes in Margate, Kent, in November 2008.

Tobin, 63, was convicted of the teenager's murder following a trial at the High Court in Dundee.

The handyman was jailed for the killing of 18-year-old Dinah last December while already serving a life sentence for the murders of Vicky and a third woman, Angelika Kluk, 23.

Tobin was found guilty of murdering Miss Kluk - a Polish student staying at a room in a Glasgow church - in May 2007.

The killer, being held at HMP Frankland in Brasside, Durham, was treated in hospital earlier this month after falling ill ahead of a court hearing.

Tobin had been due to appear at the High Court in Edinburgh on April 15 to appeal against the length of his sentence for Vicky's murder.
