A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of an older man in Buckinghamshire on Tuesday, Thames Valley Police has said.

The victim, 77, died after sustaining serious injuries during an assault at an address on Aylesbury Road, Wendover.

Officers attended the scene once they were alerted to the incident at around 5.25 pm on Tuesday afternoon.

The force later confirmed that a murder investigation had been launched and that a 36-year-old man, from Aylesbury, had been detained in connection with the crime.

The two men were known to one another, according to the police.

Detective Superintendent Kevin Brown gave the force’s condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

He said the investigation was “in the very early stages” and would lead to some disruption in the area over the coming days.

“I would like to take the opportunity to thank the local community for their cooperation and patience at this time,” Det Supt Brown added.
