Metropolitan Police 'have not learned lessons from Macpherson report,' claims black female officer suing the force for racial and sexual discrimination

Scotland Yard has not learned from the Macpherson report, said a black female officer who is taking the force to an employment tribunal.

Carol Howard, suing the Met for racial and sexual discrimination, says she was “singled out” and used to prove the force was no longer racist. PC Howard, one of the elite SO6 Diplomatic Protection Group, which helped during the Olympics, claims the DPG’s then Acting Inspector, Dave Kelly, blocked her promotion.

Accusing the Met of a “blatant cover-up”, she said: “The police have not learned any lessons from Macpherson.”

The 1999 report into the investigation into the murder of Stephen Lawrence branded the Met “institutionally racist”. A Met spokesman said it would “robustly defend the claim”.
