Three men have been charged with the murder of Mary-Ann Leneghan, the 16-year-old girl found raped and stabbed in a Reading park.

Three men have been charged with the murder of Mary-Ann Leneghan, the 16-year-old girl found raped and stabbed in a Reading park.

One of the men, Jamaile Morally, 21, of Balham, south-west London, was taken to hospital shortly after appearing at Reading magistrate's court after injuring himself in his cell. Mr Morally was also charged with the attempted murder of Mary-Ann's 18-year-old friend, as well as rape and kidnap. He was remanded in custody.

A police spokeswoman said: "Police are guarding the hospital bed of a 21-year-old man after he was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading. The man was injured in an incident in the cells at the magistrates' court in Reading." His injuries were not serious and he was later taken to prison.

Police also charged Adrian Anthony Thomas, 19, of south-east London, and Indrit Krasniqi, 18, of west London with kidnap and attempted murder. Both will appear before magistrates tomorrow. Another man being held has had his detention extended for 24 hours until this evening. Two women and a man, also arrested were released on police bail.

Mary-Ann and her friend were snatched by a gang of six men from a car park at the disused Wallingford Arms pub in Reading last weekend. They were taken to a guest house, sexually abused for several hours and dumped at nearby Prospect Park.

Mary-Ann died of a stab wound to the neck in what police described as a "rare and terrible" crime. Her friend, who has not been named, was shot in the head. She is in a serious but stable condition.
