Teenager arrested after ‘vicious’ attempted murder in Manchester
Police suspect 17-year-old boy of stabbing woman in front of her five-year-old child on Saturday
A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of the attempted murder of a woman in Manchester.
Greater Manchester Police said in a statement a 24-year-old woman was stabbed on Saturday while she was walking with her five-year-old son on Rudheath Avenue in Withington, at around 1.30pm.
The suspect escaped on foot onto Bromborough Avenue and ran in the direction of Whitchurch Road. The woman was taken to the hospital with stab wounds to her leg and remains in stable condition. Her child was unhurt.
The teenager was arrested following a police investigation.
Detective Inspector John Robb of the GMP said in a statement: “This was a vicious attack in which a woman was stabbed in front of her young son. Our thoughts are with her and her family as she recovers from this shocking ordeal.
“I would like to reassure the public that this is believed to be an isolated incident and we are not currently looking for anyone else in relation to this attempted murder.
“Our officers have worked strenuously over the weekend to gather evidence, and their determination to ensure the safety of our community has resulted in this arrest.”
He added that enquiries remain ongoing and anyone with information should get in touch with the police quoting incident number 1611 of 29/08/2020.
