Two brothers have been charged with murdering a man during a mass brawl outside a Manchester lapdancing club.

Aiden and Anton Oakes have been charged with murder and grievous bodily harm.

During the early hours of Thursday, a 10-man brawl broke out outside the bar on The Causeway in Altrincham.

Police were called at 2.40am, and arrived to find 32-year-old Christopher Thompson with serious head injuries. Paramedics attended the scene, but Mr Thompson died later that day in hospital.

Two large forensic tents were placed outside the bar, which markets itself on its website as "Manchester's only lap dancing bar with tableside topless erotic dancing, striptease and pole dancing in a gentleman's club setting that also has a VIP area".

In a statement released while the hunt for the pair was underway, detective Chief Superintendent Paul Rumney said: "This is such a tragic situation, made even more devastating by the fact it is days before Christmas and what should be a happy time turned into violence."

The brothers, both from Altrincham, are set to reappear in Manchester Crown Court on 29 December.

A post-mortem is being carried out, and police are continuing their investigations.
