Body of newborn baby found in field near Manchester
Child's identity and that of its parents are currently unknown
The body of a newborn baby has been found in a field in Greater Manchester, police say.
Officers were called to the field in Heywood at during rush hour on Wednesday.
The scene was cordoned off and police are investigating, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.
The baby's identity and that of its parents are currently unknown.
“At around 7.10am on Wednesday April 4, 2018, police were called to a field near George Street in Heywood, to reports that the body of a baby had been found," a GMP spokesperson said.
“Officers attended and discovered the body of what is believed to be a newborn baby. A scene is in place while police enquiries continue.”
