A man was stabbed in the chest and another left unconscious after a fight in the early hours of Christmas morning.

Police were called shortly before 1am after reports of a “large fight” near the Old Horns Pub in Birmingham.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 22-year-old man who had been stabbed in the chest and a 20-year-old man who had been knocked unconscious. Both are thought to be from the local area.

Detective Constable Rich Stanley said: "Two families have had their Christmas Day ruined by the attack, but we're working hard to find out what happened and who is responsible."

The two men were taken to hospital where their condition is described as stable, the Birmingham Mail reported.

Police continue with their investigations and CCTV footage is being reviewed. The area was cordoned off while forensic experts searched for evidence.

Anyone with information is asked to call the police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
