A murder probe has been launched after a man was shot dead at his home, police said today.

The body of the victim, who has not been named, was discovered at an address in Chasetown, Staffordshire, yesterday morning.

A post-mortem examination found that the man, believed to be 27, died from a single gun shot wound to the chest.

Staffordshire Police said officers were called to the house in Meadway Street at 8.30am following reports of "suspicious activity".

Chief Inspector Selwyn Burton said: "This type of shocking incident is very rare in Staffordshire and is being thoroughly investigated by the force's major investigation department. "Specially trained officers are offering support to the victim's family.

"Uniformed officers will remain in the area today to offer reassurance to local residents."

Anyone with information is urged to contact Staffordshire Police on 0300 123 4455 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."
