Man's throat slashed in subway assault

Detectives are appealing for information after a man's throat was slashed.

Emergency crews were called to a Manchester subway last night following reports that a man had been assaulted.

Police and paramedics discovered discovered the victim covered in a blood in the underpass off Cavendish Street in Tameside shortly before 8pm.

The 23-year-old victim was rushed to hospital where Greater Manchester Police today described his condition as stable.

Two men, aged 23 and 21, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder a short time after the attack.

Both remain in police custody for questioning.

Detective Sergeant Claire Platt of Ashton CID said: "The victim suffered an extremely nasty injury that could very well have killed him.

"We have responded quickly and been able to make two arrests, but I am keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen what happened."
