Man 'racially abused before being pushed onto train tracks in Glasgow'

Asian victim assaulted twice within minutes in separate 'racist attacks' on train station platform

An Asian man was racially abused and pushed onto railway tracks in Glasgow before being attacked again just minutes later.

British Transport Police said the victim was shoved between a train and the platform at Anniesland station by two men and a woman who hurled racist insults at him.

After climbing back onto the platform he was assaulted again by another man, who also racially abused him.

The victim was not seriously hurt by the assaults at 6.15pm on Sunday.

Detective Sergeant Dougie Gallacher said: “Remarkably the victim is relatively uninjured as a result of being pushed on the tracks and the following assault on the platform, however this could have easily been a lot more serious.

“We believe the man was assaulted on two separate occasions, the first being when he was pushed onto the tracks and the second when he was back on the platform."

A man has been arrested on suspicion of the second assault and was due to appear at court on Monday.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the first attack.

DS Sergeant said: "The train that was at the station at the time was the 4.40pm service from Edinburgh to Helensburgh and we’re appealing to passengers on the train and station who may have witnessed what happened to get in touch with us.

“We also have descriptions of three of the people involved which we are issuing in a bid to identify them."

 

One of the men was described as white, of a medium build with shaved hair, and wearing an orange long-sleeved top, black body warmer, dark-coloured knee-length shorts and white trainers.

The second man was white, of a medium to large build, had shaved hair, and wore a black jumper, jeans and brown shoes.

The woman was white, of a medium build, and had brown hair in a ponytail. She was wearing a light-coloured jacket, pink top, light-coloured jeans, trainers and a black bag.
