A self-proclaimed artist has been jailed for two years for defacing a painting by Mark Rothko worth up to £9m in the name of his yellowist movement.

Wlodzimierz Umaniec, 26, scrawled a message on the work, Black on Maroon, at the Tate Modern gallery in London on 7 October.

Umaniec, of Worthing, West Sussex, admitted criminal damage at Inner London Crown Court.
