A man has been charged with murdering a pensioner whose body was discovered in the basement of a shop in 1993.

Northamptonshire Police said Stuart Jenkins, 39, from Ossett in West Yorkshire, would appear before magistrates today accused of killing Arthur Brumhill.

Mr Brumhill, 76, was found dead at a pet and garden store, where he worked part-time, in Northampton in January 1993.

A police spokesman said Jenkins, formerly from Northampton, would be held in custody until his appearance at the town's magistrates' court.

Detective Inspector Louise Hemingway said: “We are pleased to be able to confirm that 22 years after Arthur's death we have been able to charge someone with his murder.

“This followed a review of the case and a re-examination of evidence recovered from the scene using up-to-date forensic techniques.”
