Anti-terror officers today arrested a man in connection with the attempted bomb attacks on 21 July, Scotland Yard said.

The 23-year-old man from the Tottenham area of north London was held at 5am as he disembarked at Gatwick Airport from a flight from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

He was held on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism under the Terrorism Act 2000.

He was taken to Paddington Green police station.

The man was held in a low-key operation by officers from Scotland Yard's Anti-Terrorist Branch, supported by Sussex Police. The officers were not armed.

He is suspected of providing logistical support to those alleged to have been involved in the 21 July bombing attempts.

It is believed he had been out of the country since June.

The man is thought to be a British resident, although it is not clear whether he is British-born.
