Man arrested over 1987 sex attack
A 43-year-old man was arrested today in connection with an attempted rape that happened more than 20 years ago.
The victim, who was then 34, was walking home from Reading railway station in Berkshire after a night out on 28 October 1987 when a man followed her home.
When she reached the house, in the Southampton Street area of the town, the man forced his way into the building and attempted to rape her.
Today's arrest, at a house in Reading, follows the discovery of new forensic evidence by officers from Thames Valley Police's major crime review team.
The man was taken into police custody for questioning.
