Man and a woman appear in court charged with attempted rape of 10-week-old girl

A man and a woman accused of attempting to rape a 10-week-old baby girl have appeared in court.

The 31-year-old man and 23-year-old woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were arrested after the baby was admitted to Colchester General Hospital in Essex on Saturday.

They appeared before Colchester magistrates today charged jointly with two counts of attempted rape and three counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, relating to serious head injuries and injuries of a sexual nature.

They have also been charged with neglect causing unnecessary suffering.

The case was adjourned for them to appear before Chelmsford Crown Court on 21 October.
