Man, 61, held for email threats to MP

Friday 26 August 2011 00:00 BST

Police have arrested a 61-year-old man over online threats against the Conservative MP Louise Mensch.

The man was arrested in Gloucester by police investigating "malicious communication and threats made via email and a social networking site".

Mrs Mensch, MP for Corby and East Northamptonshire, said this week that "morons" had threatened her children by email, blaming the hacking groups Anonymous or LulzSec.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said the police central e-crime unit and officers from the Palace of Westminster had been involved in the arrest, and that the man remained in custody in Gloucestershire.
