Man dies after being shot by firearms officer in Luton
Police say they were called to an address over reports of an alleged assualt of a woman
A 24-year-old man has been shot dead by a firearms officer in Luton.
Police said they were called to an address at around 1:30pm over reports of an alleged assualt of a woman.
Armed officers were present during the operation at Tracey Court, in the south of the Bedfordshire town.
Officers and paramedics treated the man at the scene and he was then taken to hospital.
He was pronounced dead at 2:50pm. Police said his family have been informed.
An investigation has been launched by the Independent Police Complaints Commission into the incident.
“First and foremost our thoughts are very much with the family of the man involved in this tragic incident," said Chief Constable Jon Boutcher.
“The IPCC has been informed, as is standard protocol when someone has died following police contact, and as such it would be inappropriate for us to comment any further at this stage."
A police spokesperson said investigators would make initial enquiries at the scene of the shooting and the hospital.
