A man has been shot dead and another left with a gunshot wound in the latest spate of murderous violence to hit London’s streets.

Police found the first victim, believed to be in his 30s, critically wounded outside Queensbury tube station just after 9pm on Tuesday.

They were unable to prevent him dying at the scene almost an hour later.

Meanwhile another man, in his 20s, attended a nearby hospital in the north of the capital minutes after police were called to the scene in Queensbury.

He remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Officers are examining CCTV and have cordoned off two crime scenes, either side of the tube station, a five-minute walk from each other.

However the Met Police has not confirmed to The Independent whether the shootings were linked, or were being treated as separate investigations.

Detective Inspector Justin Howick said: "I would like to appeal to anyone with information to contact police at the earliest opportunity.

"Detectives are busy at the scene and working to build a clear picture of the circumstances of this fatal attack."

No arrests have been made and police are in the process of informing the victim's next-of-kin.

Formal identification and a post-mortem are yet to take place.

The murder comes amid growing concerns about knife and gun crime and youth violence in the capital.

The death brings the total number of suspected murders in the capital so far this year to 63, prompting fears that violent crime could rise to the highest levels for a decade.

In the whole of last year, there were 130 murders in London.

Anyone with any information should call police on 101 quoting CAD 7757/01May, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
