Teenager charged with rape and murder after woman found in burning Leicester flat
Curtis Moyse, 18, to face court after body of Leah Fray, 27, discovered over Easter weekend
A teenager has been charged with murder, rape and arson after a woman’s body was found in a burning flat in Leicester.
Curtis Moye, 18, was charged by Leicestershire Police detectives investigating the death of Leah Fray.
The 27-year-old’s body was found over the Easter weekend after paramedics were called to a fire in a flat in Mere Road just after 7am on Sunday 21 April.
Mr Moyse, of Avonside Drive, Leicester, was charged with rape, murder and arson with intent to endanger life.
He appeared at Leicester Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, but only spoke to confirm his personal details and did not enter a plea to any of the charges.
He was remanded in custody and will appear at Leicester Crown Court on Monday.
Police launched a murder investigation after finding Ms Fray’s body, suspecting the fire had been deliberately started.
Officers urged anyone who saw the victim on the morning of 21 April or saw anything unusual in the area in the evening to come forward.
A 56-year-old man arrested on Monday evening in connection with Ms Fray’s death has been released with no further action.
Detective Chief Inspector Michelle Keen, who is leading the investigation, said on Friday: “I would still like to speak to anyone who knew Leah, or has information about people who may have visited her flat.”
