A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the body of a woman was found in Leicester last week.

The 54-year-old was detained on Saturday night by Leicestershire Police, two days after officers found a man injured at the bottom of a cliff close to Hunstanton in Norfolk – about 100 miles away.

Police have not yet named the victim, whose body was found at a home in Tennis Court Drive, Leicester, at about 10.30am on Thursday. Concerns had been raised about her welfare.

The 49-year-old was found to have suffered a head injury, and pronounced dead at the property.

Police said the man found on a beach with life-threatening injuries was believed to have fallen from a cliff, and that he was in hospital in a serious condition. The BBC previously reported his age as 54, and police said they were treating the woman’s death and his fall as linked.

Detective Chief Inspector Joe Banfield, from the East Midlands special operations unit, who is leading the investigation, said: “Although an arrest has been made, our investigation continues to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the death.

“I would still like to hear from anyone who may have any information related to this incident.”
