Two men have been charged following reports that a gang “attacked” a woman on a bus in south London allegedly because of the way she was dressed.

The 22-year-old victim was knocked unconscious in the incident, and had to be taken to hospital.

Kieran Brown, 25, of Nightingale Avenue, Harrow, has been charged with actual bodily harm while Joel Clue, 22, of Kennington Road, Lambeth, has been charged with common assault.

The pair will appear at Camberwell Green Magistrates Court on 16 December and 18 December respectively.

They stand accused of being involved in the alleged attack on the 344 bus in Lambeth, south-east London which began at around 1.15am on Thursday 29 August.

Prior to making arrests yesterday, police released CCTV footage from the bus which appeared to show a group of five men criticise the clothing of a woman they had never met before.

After an exchange of words, one member of the group allegedly poured a can of drink over her and pulled her hair.

The victim apparently reacted to the attack by attempting to stand up. As she fell, the woman hit her head and was knocked unconscious.

The gang got off at the next stop, and an ambulance was called to treat the victim. She was taken to hospital, treated for a head injury and released the same day.

Issuing an appeal for witnesses two days ago, Detective Constable Kyla Mulley of Lambeth CID said: “This was a shocking attack on a young woman, prompted by nothing more than a brief exchange of words.”

Both Mr Brown and Mr Clue have been released on bail. Scotland Yard said it was not seeking anyone else in connection with the investigation.
