A 16-year-old boy died in a motorbike crash in Ireland on Christmas Day, just hours after he had reportedly received the vehicle as a present.

The teenager, from west Dublin, crashed into another motorcycle, ridden by a man in his early 20s, on Cherry Orchard Avenue at around 8am on Friday, the Irish Mirror reported.

An ambulance took the teen to St James’s Hospital but he was later pronounced dead.

The second motorist was also taken to hospital but his injuries are not believed to be life threatening, according to a statement from Ireland’s National Police Service, An Gardaí Síochána.

Officers had closed the road with Gardaí investigators sweeping the scene for forensic clues. The coroner has been notified.

The Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to contact Ballyfermot Garda Station 01-6667200 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
