IPCC: Spelling mistake was a fatal error

Wednesday 12 December 2012 23:39 GMT

A spelling mistake had "profound consequences" for efforts to prevent the murder of a woman suffering domestic abuse, an IPCC inquiry has found.

Sarah Gosling, 41, was stabbed by her partner Ian Hope, 53, at their home in Newcastle, and he was later jailed for life. A mis-spelling of Hope's address 13 years earlier meant Northumbria officers called to the home were unaware of his violent history.
