House fire claims mother and sons

A baby was fighting for his life in hospital last night after his a fire killed his mother and three brothers.

Four-month-old Jamie McClung is critically ill at the Sick Children's Hospital in Edinburgh after the blaze at their terrace house in Bathgate, West Lothian.

Paula McClung, 28, died at the scene while David, nine; Allan, seven, and 17-month-old Josh McClung died later in hospital. Police are investigating whether the fire was an arson attack.

Detective Superintendent Ian Ross, of Lothian and Borders Police, said that police were "keeping an open mind" over the incident. Steven Torrie, of Lothian and Borders Fire Brigade, said the fire would affect everyone deeply.
