'Holby City' star in critical condition after fall

The actress Laura Sadler, who plays the nurse Sandy Harper in the BBC medical drama Holby City, was in a critical condition in a London hospital last night after falling from a second-floor balcony.

Ms Sadler's onscreen boyfriend, George Calil, who was staying at the flat in Holland Park, west London, at the time, was later arrested at the scene. The 22-year-old actress suffered serious head injuries after plunging about 12 metres (40ft) from the large house. She was found unconscious in a basement stairwell at the rear of the luxury flats early yesterday morning.

Mr Calil, 30, who plays the drug-dealer boyfriend in the drama series, was questioned all day but was later released on police bail.

Ms Sadler has appeared in Jane Eyre, Inspector Morse and Grange Hill. Mr Calil has acted in Band of Brothers and the film The Lost Battalion.
