Man arrested after ‘pointing long-barrelled firearm’ at children
Police fired plastic bullets at suspected gunman
Police in Leicestershire have arrested a man on suspicion of a firearms offence, after he was reported to have pointed a weapon at people in the street, including at children.
Officers were called to the area of Sarson Street, Quorn, at 12.04pm on Wednesday to a report of a man walking around the area with a firearm.
Firearms officers were deployed to the scene “in the interests of public and officer safety”, and police fired plastic bullets at the suspected gunman.
The 50-year-old man, from the village of Quorn, was checked by East Midlands Ambulance Service and was reported to have suffered bruising to his arm, said a spokesperson for the force. He is not reported to have sustained any other injuries.
He was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and remains in police custody.
The road remains closed and officers are in the area carrying out inquiries.
Rawlins Academy, which is in the area, said police informed the school of “an incident” and “followed its lockdown procedures” for safety.
