Three men have been taken to hospital in Glasgow after stabbings reportedly took place during a “horrific mass brawl” between Rangers and Celtic supporters in the city centre.

Police Scotland said three men were receiving hospital treatment after emergency services were called to a disturbance on Albion Street around 5pm on Sunday afternoon.

Witnesses said a huge fight broke out between football fans in the Merchant City area after Celtic beat arch rivals Rangers 2-1 in the lunchtime Old Firm derby.

One told The Daily Record at least 15 people were involved in a “horrific mass brawl”, while another told the newspaper a Celtic fan was “in a bad way” after the incident.

Police cordoned off Albion Street following the outbreak of violence. “There is an ongoing police incident, there was a disturbance with three persons injured who are currently receiving hospital treatment,” said a Police Scotland spokesperson.

Glasgow City Council later put a traffic diversion in place via the High Street.

Earlier on Sunday, police announced that six arrests have been made over alleged offences which took place at the Old Firm clash.

Three were in connection with sectarian breaches of the peace, one was to do with being drunk and incapable, one was for resisting arrest, while another was for attempting to enter the stadium with alcohol.

All of the alleged offences took place in and around Celtic Park on Sunday.
