Television weatherman Fred Talbot has been convicted by a Manchester jury of indecently assaulting two teenage boys at a school where he taught.

Talbot, who found fame on the floating weather map for ITV's top-rated This Morning show, has been remanded in custody until 13 March.

The 65-year-old denied indecently assaulting the boys while he worked as a teacher at Altrincham Grammar School between the 1960s and early 1980s.

Speaking at Minshull Street Crown Court, judge Timothy Mort said he did not need pre-sentencing reports but told Talbot his sentence should start today considering his "abuse of trust".

Talbot looked slightly surprised as he was told he would be remanded in custody and nodded to the jurors before he left the dock.

He was said to have been "obsessed" with teenage boys throughout his teaching career and "could not help himself" around them when under the influence of drink.

Among the prosecution witnesses at the trial were The Stone Roses singer Ian Brown, who said he remembered two or three biology lessons given by Talbot when he was an 11-year-old boy.

He said Talbot had "explained how to masturbate" in one lesson and "asked who had masturbated" in the following lesson.

Brown said Talbot also showed another class a video which was "probably a gay porn film”.
