Finsbury park murder: 21-year-old suspect identified by police
Victim 'brought joy to everyone to everyone around him through his conspicuous smile', says sister
A 21-year-old man arrested after a 20-year-old man was murdered in Finsbury Park, north London, has been named by police.
Brayane Tchenda, of Delancey Street, Camden, has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon and will appear in court on Monday 23 April.
The victim, named locally as Kwasi Anim-Boadu, was stabbed to death in the early hours of Saturday morning, becoming the 39th person to be murdered with a knife in the capital this year.
His sister described him as “full of life” and said he “brought joy to everyone around him through his conspicuous smile and heart warming aura”.
Mr Anim-Boadu, also known as Junior, was weeks away from his 21st birthday when he was killed.
Police were called to Seven Sisters Road just after 3am on Saturday and found Mr Anim-Boadu and Mr Tchenda with stab wounds a short distance from each other. Mr Anim-Boadu was pronounced dead in nearby Roth Walk.
Mr Tchenda was taken to hospital before being discharged. He was later arrested on suspicion of murder, possession of an offensive weapon and affray.
London saw a fresh spate of violence over the weekend, with two men stabbed near Tooting Bec tube station in south London during a fight at about 6pm on Saturday. Police described one of the men’s injuries as not life-threatening, while the condition of the other man was known.
Minutes later, paramedics attended to a 14-year-old boy, who had been stabbed in the leg in Walthamstow, east London.
Another man died on Friday night after being assaulted in Morden, south London on Thursday. Aaron Springett, 32, was involved in an argument with a man outside a Paddy Power bookmakers on London Road about 25 minutes before paramedics found him. A post mortem examination gave the cause of his death as blunt force trauma to the chest.
A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder on Friday and taken to a police station in south London, where he remains in custody.
A spike of violence has rocked London, with Scotland Yard launching more than 60 murder investigations so far this year.
