Finsbury Park Mosque: Hate crime investigation after attempted arson attack
The suspect was last seen wearing a white hooded top and is believed to have fled the scene on a moped
Police are searching for a white hooded male over a suspected arson attempt at Finsbury Park mosque.
The man is alleged to have attempted to set fire to the mosque in north London at about 10am this morning.
The suspect was last seen fleeing the scene on a moped.
Jeremy Corbyn visited the mosque last week to express his support to the British Muslim community in the wake of the Paris attacks.
Mr Corbyn expressed his belief that Muslims in Britain were neither responsible nor should they be treated any differently from any member of British society, in a speech delivered during Friday prayers.
Detectives are investigating the attempted arson as a potential hate crime.
Forensic officers were seen working outside the mosque today.
Anyone with information should contact Islington CID on 0207 421 0262 or by dialling 101 or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via crimestoppers-uk.org
