EasyJet: Two men arrested over suspected hoax bomb threat on plane in Manchester Airport

Two men have been arrested after more than 140 passengers were evacuated from a holiday jet following a suspected bomb hoax.
Police were called to Manchester Airport after the pilot of Marrakech-bound easyJet flight EZY1893 reported that a passenger was claiming he had a bomb in his bag.
The incident happened just five minutes before the flight was due to take off at Terminal 1 at 3.35pm on 19 November.
Passengers were evacuated and two men, aged 45 and 46, were arrested on suspicion of making a bomb hoax.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Officers were called to Stand One at Manchester Airport's Pier B following reports that a passenger had claimed to have a bomb in his bag.
"The aircraft was immediately evacuated and two men, aged 45 and 46, were arrested on suspicion of making a bomb hoax.
"The passengers and their baggage are now being subjected to another screening before they are allowed back on the plane.
"The searches and security checks are on-going and no explosive devices have so far been found."
Airline easyJet confirmed that police boarded the flight at the request of the captain.
A spokesman for the airline said: "We take very seriously any security-related issued made to easyJet to ensure the continued safety and security of our passengers and crew.
“All passengers have currently disembarked the aircraft whilst the authorities carry out security checks.
“The safety and security of its passengers and crews is always easyJet's highest priority and we would like to thank passengers for their understanding. "
A spokesman for Manchester Airport said: "Due to an incident on-board an easyJet aircraft this afternoon, as a precautionary measure passengers were taken off board whilst police investigated.
“Anyone with specific enquiries should liaise with Greater Manchester Police or the airline directly.
“In the meantime we will be working closely with the airline and third parties to look after all passengers until they can continue with their journey.
“At all times the safety and security of our passengers and staff is of paramount importance.”
