A 21-year-old man has been shot dead at a pub in a suspected “drive-by shooting” in South Yorkshire.

Tom Bell, who has been described as a “talented boxer”, was at the Maple Tree pub in Doncaster when a bullet flew through the window shortly before 9pm on 17 January.

The pub was evacuated and Bell was treated at the scene by paramedics before he was rushed to hospital.

Medics were unable to save Bell, who died of his injuries.

Following the shooting bullet holes could be seen in the windows of the pub and there have been unconfirmed reports it was a drive-by shooting.

Tributes have poured in for Bell and Doncaster Plantworks Amateur Boxing Club, where he is believed to have trained, described the 21-year-old as a “great warrior”.

In a statement the club said: “We are absolutely devastated to announce the passing of a great warrior who has spent a huge amount of time over the years boxing with our club.

“We are shocked beyond words to hear the sad news and would like to offer our sincere condolences to Tom’s family and closest friends.”

Mr Bell’s older sister, Ceejay, posted a tribute on social media, describing her brother as her “best friend”.

“Good night God Bless to my little bro! No one will compare to you, my best friend,” she said on Facebook.

The full details of the shooting have not yet been released by South Yorkshire Police.

A spokesperson for the police said: “Detectives remain in the area today, carrying out inquiries, as they work to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. At this time, no arrests have been made.

“Police are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area last night, and who saw what happened. They are also keen to hear from anyone who has dashcam footage around the Plantation Road area.”
