Devon stabbing: Man dies after being 'stabbed multiple times' in retail park
49-year-old in police custody after arrest over attack in Barnstaple
A man has been arrested following a suspected murder at a retail park in north Devon.
Devon and Cornwall Police said officers were called to Barnstaple Retail Park around 6.30pm on Friday after reports of a stabbing.
The victim, a man in his 30s, was said to have been “stabbed multiple times” in the Tesco car park and later died at North Devon District Hospital. Police have yet to have to confirm his identity.
The 49-year-old suspect was arrested around 3am on Saturday after police issued an appeal. The 49-year-old remains in police custody and awaits questioning.
Detective Superintendent Mike West thanked the public for their response after an appeal to find the suspect was launched.
He said: “We would like to thank the public for their assistance. The information they shared with us had a direct impact in helping officers locate and arrest a suspect in the early hours of Saturday morning.
“This investigation is at an early stage and we ask that witnesses who may have any information, or anyone who was in the area of the retail park before or during the time of the attack, to contact police on 101 quoting log number 908 of 3 August.”
