Police catch man using fake 'Del Boy' driving licence
'Three-wheeler only', false document states alongside picture of grinning David Jason
A “plonker” motorist was caught with a fake licence in the name of Del Boy after police pulled him over for allegedly driving without insurance.
Officers from Norfolk Constabulary’s dog unit pulled over a green Renault Megane and reported the driver for lacking insurance and a licence, but it was the Only Fools and Horses-themed fake document that caught their eye.
It listed the iconic character’s date of birth as 30 August, 1958, and stipulated he was allowed to drive three-wheel vehicles only.
His address is given as Tower Hamlets, rather than Peckham, on the card which also featured a grinning David Jason in a tweet flat cap.
Officers at Norfolk Constabulary tweeted: “#BonnetDeDouche everybody, not even this #Plonkers fake driving licence could stop their car being seized. firme la port!”
The driver would face no action over the fake document, they said, because “it wasn’t produced in an attempt to deceive, it was seen after the person had been dealt with and just as a joke”.
A spokesman said: “A man, aged in his 20s, was stopped on the A47 at Terrington St John on Wednesday, 21 March 2018.
“The driver was reported for offences including no driving licence and no insurance. He will be summonsed to appear at court in due course.”
