Croydon stabbing: Pregnant victim Kelly-Mary Fauvrelle said she ‘couldn’t wait to meet’ baby
Police arrest man on suspicion of murder as baby remains in critical condition
A pregnant woman who was stabbed to death in London wrote that she could not “wait to meet” her baby in one of her last Facebook posts.
Kelly-Mary Fauvrelle’s child is in a critical condition after being delivered by paramedics at the scene of the attack.
The 26-year-old woman was eight months pregnant when she was killed in Croydon in the early hours of Saturday morning.
In one of her last posts on Facebook, she had shared an ultrasound photograph with the caption: “Happy Valentine's sweet pea ... we can't wait to meet you.”
Police have arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of murder and taken him into custody.
A 37-year-old man who was previously arrested has been released under investigation pending further inquiries.
Police were called at 3.30am on Saturday to reports of a woman in cardiac arrest in the Thornton Heath area.
A spokesperson for Scotland Yard said: “Officers attended along with London Ambulance Service (LAS) and found 26-year-old Kelly, who was eight months pregnant, suffering from stab injuries.
“Despite the efforts of paramedics, she sadly died at the scene.
“Her baby was delivered by LAS at the scene before being taken to hospital. The child remains there in a critical condition.
“A post-mortem examination will be held in due course. At this early stage officers retain an open mind as to motive.”
Detective Chief Inspector Mick Norman called the incident "horrific" and said Ms Fauvrelle’s family were being supported by specialist officers.
“At the forefront of our inquiries is understanding what exactly has led to these tragic circumstances, and we are doing everything we can to establish the facts," he added.
Neighbours said that three women, one of whom was pregnant, lived at the house and they had a small dog.
One described the victim as “a nice girl” and another said she was “shocked and surprised” to hear about the attack.
Ms Fauvrelle was a motorbike enthusiast and recently became an aunt.
Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, said: “Violence against women is endemic in society and devastating murders in the home, like this one, show the scale of the problem we face.
“My prayers are with this innocent child, and with the mother it has so tragically lost.”
A police cordon was put in place around the two-storey semi-detached house, with uniformed officers stationed outside.
Police appealed for anyone with information to contact police on the dedicated incident room number of 0208 7214005, or ring 101 or alternatively contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
