Couple guilty of assaults on children at Jersey care home
A married couple has been convicted of a string of physical assaults at a children's home in the 1970s and 1980s.
Morag and Anthony Jordan, both 62, from Kirriemuir, Angus, were found guilty by the Royal Court of Jersey of eight counts of abuse at the island's Haut de la Garenne home.
Mr and Mrs Jordan were accused of inflicting "casual and routine violence". Mrs Jordan was convicted of pushing one child's face into urine-soaked sheets after she had wet the bed, and of hitting others with her hand and with a wooden shoe.
Mr Jordan's convictions relate to hitting children with a spoon, a knife or with his hand. Giving evidence, a former resident recalled being hit with such force that he fell off his chair. They were bailed until sentencing on 6 January.
